There was a brief time after the analog television shutdown in 2009 when the weather channel in my city kept on trucking with their broadcasts on VHF. This was really good news to my family, who at the time was within the same pool as more than a million people who didn’t even know the shutdown was occurring.

So for the next year or so before the lone transmitter blipped out of existence and my family’s TV would fail to find a signal ever again, I grew to find entertainment in reading the weather over and over again and watching those CGI scenes about hurricanes and tornadoes sweeping cars away and whatnot. But when the local on the 8s kicked on, that was the MTV of analog.

That’s what KROMBLeM’s work with GO!GO!GO! brings me back to. My four year old self sitting on the dark red sofa in the messy living room of that bungalow house in the middle of the block. The first track off the stack, WINDOW, and last, BUGS ARE BEAUTIFUL, are especially reminiscent of this in my opinion. Nostalgia isn’t a real thing, but this is the closest I’ve seen somebody get in terms of creating that kind of sound that early 2010s TWC had. And it is a very nice sound!
